Ivan Filchev

Ivan Filchev is a professional ballet artist and teacher who spent 16 years as a soloist and corps de ballet dancer at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. His life has been shaped by discipline, movement, and years of continuous practice — but also by a deep understanding that dance is ultimately about helping a person better understand and develop themselves.

Born in 1988, Ivan entered the State Ballet Academy in Moscow, under the direction of G. Ledyakh, at the age of ten. Already as a young student, he became a prizewinner of the All-Russian Competition Young Ballet of Russia. He did not come from a ballet family; his path into dance began through his mother, who, as he describes it, once dreamed of ballet herself but never had the opportunity to pursue it fully. Recognizing both his interest and natural ability early on, she introduced him to the world of dance, and what began as childhood training gradually became a lifelong profession.

During his tenure at the Bolshoi, Ivan performed in all major world tours — from London and Paris to New York and Tokyo — and participated in numerous international premieres. His repertoire included roles in The Nutcracker (Mouse King), Spartacus (Four Shepherds), Ivan the Terrible, La Bayadère, and the world premiere of Nureyev. Over these years, he experienced ballet not only as an art form, but as an environment demanding exceptional consistency, resilience, and commitment.

Alongside his theatre career, Ivan also explored work beyond the stage — from running a small oil-production business to investing in real estate projects. These parallel experiences gave him a broader perspective on discipline, responsibility, and working with people outside artistic environments.

As a teacher, Ivan brings a wealth of experience from his work at the State Moscow Ballet Academy, where he taught classical pas de deux and choreography. He has conducted masterclasses internationally and has extensive experience preparing children for admission to professional ballet schools.
